Respect without accountability becomes avoidance. Accountability without dignity becomes coercion.
Organizations need both.
Humane leadership is not permissive leadership
I do not believe stewardship means lowering standards to keep people comfortable. Standards matter because other people depend on the work being done safely, correctly, and consistently.
But accountability becomes more legitimate when expectations are clear, training exists, policies are applied consistently, and people have a credible way to raise barriers before those barriers become excuses after failure.
This balance runs across my books and into the Alvarez Stewardship Method. Human dignity belongs before the system, but dignity does not erase responsibility. It changes how responsibility is developed and enforced.
